Challenges of becoming a Morning Person?

One of the hardest things to do is to wake up early. Like you all I also relate to this and used to struggle until a few months back when I brought about a major positive change in myself and more than physical change it was a mental change that was required. I also came across this rising issue of insomnia that I will highlight in another blog soon. But, if that’s not your reason of lack of sleep then you will definitely relate to me.

Whether you are a student or you work as a professional you can completely relate to my routine since currently I am balancing both. My day is pretty busy and hectic.

Whats important to know here is how did I manage to become a Morning person WHO LITERALLY ENJOYS waking up early. I am not even kidding. (Especially Cause I get to Drink a big cup of coffee)

It is one of my favorite things to do!

So I have always been a disciplined person who would sleep early and wake up early no matter what. But somehow few months back I sort of got off track and started staying up late night and wasting time on my mobile. LIKE SERIOUSLY not even something productive.

I started getting Migraines more frequently, too moody, started skipping meals and OFCOURSE I was always sleepy, drained out and thinking of when will I get free to go home. So basically I became too unproductive. BEING UNPRODUCTIVE IS WHAT I LITERALLY HATE THE MOST!

I am sure most of you will be nodding since you all can relate to it. Being this young I was so tired and drained that I started losing sight of what my goals were in life.

Overall, I was too drained to be my Creative Self at work or even at my institute.
I guess this was more than enough for me to realize that I needed to pay attention towards my priorities. A lot of you will relate to what I am about to say.

If you are working while studying and then you don’t even get proper sleep what do you expect would happen? Yes, due to the uncontrollable Migraines I got sick. Migraines usually occur due to stress, lack of proper sleep, skipping meals, food allergies and many other reasons for me its usually due to stress or lack of sleep.

But I was about to change it and make myself disciplined again. Not being able to wake up early for most of us is because we have had an undisciplined life since a long time but, mine was a bit different from it as for me it was not the lifestyle that was messed up since a long time but, it was due to my addiction to surfing on the internet. WHICH WAS A QUITE RECENT HABIT.

So Now begins the journey of de-cluttering my mind to start fresh. I told myself that I have had enough of it. I cant be crying over waking up early every morning, running to make breakfast, ironing, clothes, running all around the house to gather stuff and leave home on time to reach my institute.

I also realized I would stay up at night cause I kept telling myself that since I am busy the whole day I should stay up late at night to watch all the tv shows and enjoy. Which isn’t the right way to enjoy. Most of us think that since we work the whole week we need to stay up on weekends and mess up our routine which eventually messes up the whole week (which is worse).

Going to bed early doesn’t make you boring. It makes you someone who sleeps early to wake up early and conquer the world.

That is when you can do all that you want to enjoy. So my journey started when I came back on track. Before going to bed I started meditating for 20 minutes and telling myself that tomorrow is going to be better than today. Sleeping at 10pm or atleast getting into bed at 10pm and putting myself to sleep before 11pm (Literally takes me time to put myself to sleep).

Waking up early was a little hard initially as I used to snooze my early a couple of times but, even at that time in the morning when I can hardly open my eyes I would think about my goals for the day and that would really help me wake up and slowly and gradually I would dismiss my alarm and get out of bed immediately instead of wasting 40 minutes lying in the bed to gather energy to get out of the bed.

So I started with waking up early to pray, watching news and reading the market, watch Half a episode of some fun show (if I am in the mood to), Have breakfast and most importantly a Cup of Coffee to get me started.

Within a couple of days I felt that until lunch time I would be charged up to work after reaching home I had more energy to exercise couple of days a week, spend quality time with my family or if I had more time I would meet friends even on weekdays.

All this change only because I started sleeping early?!! Woah…

I also made a couple of small changes (Reduced my sugar intake and preferred taking the stairs instead of the elevator). These changes didn’t have anything to do with my sleeping patterns but still helped me improve my lifestyle.

This brought back the aims and goals I had in my mind. I reflect on them with a fresh mind everyday. I thank GOD before going to sleep every night. I eat well, I exercise and the frequency of migraines have reduced drastically.

All this was just because every night I would tell myself that I need to wake up early to be able to work well and perform well everyday. The attitude was what changed the most and frankly, that is what helped the most. Waking up every morning and being genuinely thankful to GOD, planning the day in my head so that I don’t panic at work and being excited to come home to exercise and spend time with my family. And I didn’t stop going out on weekends I just continued to get back early and sleep on time.

Rightly said by Benjamin Franklin, Early to Bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and Wise.

Tips on how to become a morning person
  1.  Meditate before sleeping
  2.  Be thankful (ALWAYS)
  3.  Don’t regret the day that has passed. Plan for a better day tomorrow
  4.  Get in bed on time
  5. Wake up with all your goals in your mind (its all about training your mind)
  6. Have a good amount of breakfast, watch news or whatever you want to do
  7.  Leave home on time and give yourself time to get used to the routine
  8.  Eat your meals on time
  9. Exercise atleast thrice a week (It has more benefits than you can imagine, also helps in getting rid of insomnia if that is one of the reasons why you cant sleep early).

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Change your attitude towards “sleep early is boring” if you truly want to achieve all that in your twenties then you need to give up that messed up routine and instead of wasting time on the social media at night you should look forward to waking up early and being Productive.

For me the main reason behind being able to wake up early and enjoy every morning was the change in my mindset regarding waking up early and going out to work or study.

I told myself that just by sleeping late I mess up my whole day and mood so why not get rid of that and be more organized and focused.

A massive thankyou to all my followers for sending in questions and suggestions.
